There aren't many things worse than a bad run. Lately, I've been on a continual runner's high and felt as if each run was better than the last and each week better than the previous. Until today. But today's run was kind of an important one. It was my last long(-ish) run before the Myrtle Beach Half Marathon next Sat and I planned to 10 at pace. I was psyched and looking forward to it all week. Not only do I cherish my weekend runs that I can do at a reasonable time instead of zero-dark-thirty in the morning before work, but it was also going to be my last real run before hitting the taper zone in the week leading up to the race.
Things didn't go as planned though. And I did it to myself. I had eggs for breakfast. I should have known better, I've had bad runs before after eating eggs. I started off great…but it turned bad quickly and I went from running 10 at pace to running 8 to 10 at an easy pace….to just getting 4 in….to calling it quits….at mile 2. Yep, I got 2 whole miles…and had stopped twice during those 2 miles. I couldn't even concentrate on my beloved Gossip Girl because of how badly my stomach hurt! So the new plan is to get 8 to 10 tomorrow at pace and then start the taper. And no eggs!
Other than today's bust, I couldn't be happier with my runs lately. My mileage has been inching up, my long runs have gotten longer, my paces have been going down, and my motivation and enthusiasm has been higher than it has been in years and I'm loving every minute of it. Except today :-/
I'm excited for Saturday and liking what I see on the forecast so far. Not only is there the race to look forward to this weekend, but Brian's hockey team received an invite to Regionals and will be kicking off their post-season play with a tournament a couple hours away from Myrtle Beach and my in-laws will be coming down for the weekend to watch the games. Plus I'll get to catch up with Vanessa, albeit briefly since I'm only hopping over to Myrtle Beach for the race and will be spending the bulk of my time at the hockey tournament, who is running the full at MBM.
