The first, The Best Foods for Runners, makes me really happy because it lists 15 foods and most of my favorite regular go-to foods are on there.
I'm always happy to read about the health benefits of eating whole eggs and articles debunking the cholesterol concerns…considering I eat eggs more days than not. And considering I've eaten sweet potatoes the past three nights, it obviously makes me happy to see them make the list. Following that, normally bring a little thing of greek yogurt in my lunch, so it's good see that as well. Other favorites from the list that I eat regularly: chicken, whole grain cereals, mixed veggies, salmon, whole grain bread, and whole grain pasta.
Things that I like, but don't eat regularly: oranges, mixed salad greens (I eat a lot of salad, but I normally opt for a single type of lettuce instead of mixed), mixed frozen berries, and dark chocolate. And the two things I just can't get into: canned black beans and almonds.
The other article makes me even happier - Resolved: Eat the Damn Cookie! Okay!
The article goes on to explain that the mental torture involved in agonizing over whether or not to have a cookie is simply not worth it, just eat it already! No need to say more, I will! I pay attention to what I eat and aim to keep my overall diet healthy, but "everything in moderation" is my guiding principle. To put it simply, I love pizza and wine too much to eliminate it :)
What foods from the list are your regular favorites? What ones are you not a fan of?
Do you just eat the damn cookie or do you avoid it?
And who else is a Gossip Girl fan?! I'll talk more about that later…..but to put it simply, it's my new guilty pleasure on the treadmill and I loooooooove it!

thanks for posting this! I read the food runners eat, but not the cookie one. I totally agree with it though and is the thought process I try to use. I am in the same boat as you with about needing to eat more mixed greens. I always jump straight to spinach salads, even though I do like mixed greens! You are crazy about the almonds and black beans. I love both soooo much! I used to be a gossip girl fan back in the day, but missed a few episodes and just kind of fell off the bandwagon
ReplyDeleteIt's so nice to see that it's a REALISTIC list of foods! Normal products found in any grocery store. For me, there are no specialty stores around, so it makes me happy to know that the things are easily accessible, and yummy too!
ReplyDeletewoo-hoo! I think this post has convinced me to go get that darn dark chocolate bar I have been craving! I tend to sit on chocolate cravings a bit since it is a stress response but now, perhaps a teeny bar when the craving hits is a good idea!
ReplyDeleteI cannot believe you don't like black beans or almonds. What the what?
ReplyDeleteI have no problem eating a cookie. My problem is I can eat *cough* half a dozen *cough*. ;)
I've been on a kick of eating oranges lately. I'm with Jenny about the cookies which is why we just can't keep them in the house. I love sweet potatoes too and we don't have them nearly enough!
