My new toy

So the day finally arrived - a day that Brian and I have talked about for a long time - we got a treadmill!!!  I know, I know, if you read this blog back in the day, you're probably wondering why I'm so excited because I was the girl who was rather vocal about my DISLIKE of the treadmill.  Two things changed that:
  1. My mom gave me her iPad and I'm easily addicted to mindless guilty TV shows (hellooo, Keeping up with the Kardashians, Make it or Break It,  and [most recently] Gossip Girl)
  2. I need to leave for work by 7:20 and I'm simply not that successful at working out later in the day and I'm just not going to go out and run in the dark. Yes, that's right, I would rather wake up crazy early than work out later in the day.

However, the truth is, I've slowly been converting to a huge treadmill fan over the past year and Brian and I have been talking more and more…and more...about getting one.  So after getting some donations at Christmas, we took advantage of the sales targeting all the people tackling New Year resolutions and got a treadmill!  With free delivery and assembly - bonus!!!

Even though our gym is close, I can't tell you how nice it has been to wake up and head to the guest room to run.  When I'm waking up as early as I have to in order to be out the door at 7:20, every minute counts.  But I am so in love with our new treadmill.  It makes my life so much easier, I love the dashboard controls, and it has a ledge for my iPad...possibly the most important feature!  There's even a chance I might be more tempted to get workouts in later in the day or even some 2-a-days (gasp!).

So now my new problem is convincing myself to get outside on the weekends for long runs.  I have to admit, even though I love my local running trail and the cold weather doesn't really bother me…knowing that I can just slide back to the guest room in a tank and shorts and get my run in while getting my Gossip Girl fix at the same time is really tempting.  It's kind of a problem….as in I may have less of a need for cold weather running gear.  Just kidding, I'll always find a need for those clothes…even if it is just wearing casually :)   But seriously, I do think I'm going to have to work on forcing myself outdoors on the weekends.

Are you a treadmill fan or foe?  Or convert?

What are your guilty TV pleasures?

Do you run when it's still dark outside?  As in pitch-black?

  1. I've never been able to run on a treadmill. This week I went to the gym to run a 3-miler on the treadmill. I'm not gonna lie, it was tough. BUT, I ran 11 miles on the Fayetteville trails today-no problem! Weird!! It sure is a pretty new toy though!! For a fellow Fayetteville-ialn, if you ever want to do long runs with a buddy, let me know!!

  2. I love the treadmill but I don't always run on it. You're right though, it's nice to be able to hop on it in the guest room and crank out a ran no matter the weather outside.

  4. So beyond jealous of every treadmill owner because I've wanted one ever since we sold our last one with our house. There is absolutely no room where I currently live and I have a gym membership so I definitely don't "need" one BUT when that day comes, I'll be so giddy!! Congrats:)

  6. OH YES! I love my treadmill...even though it isn't my dream treadmill at the moment. That constant incline kinda sucks but I am thankful for it each and every day! And yes, when it dies, hopefully YEARS from now, I will be replacing it with an adjustable incline treadmill!

  8. The treadmill and I are very intimate :). Enjoy the heck out of it; it sure is a lifesaver for me when it's dark and I'm too afraid to run alone out there.

  9. Nice treadmill. I'm not a big fan of treadmills but I have been known to use them when the weather prevents me from hitting the roads.

  10. Congrats! I can't say I would be as excited about a TM (still in the DISLIKE camp), but I know it makes things SO much easier for people who can tolerate them :) Also, Gossip Girl is my FAVORITE!!!

    1. Also, teach me to love it because I know I have some key runs coming up that will most likely be on the TM and I am almost afraid of the darn thing because the pace always feels so much faster than the same pace outside? Is that normal?

  11. Hooray! Congrats on your new 'mill!

    I'm a convert -- I'll use it when there's no viable alternative.

Guilty TV pleasure: Hawaii Five-0, Say Yes to the Dress, House Hunters

Dark running? All. The. Time. (But usually with a group.)
